How to draw a cursor:
Cursors are real easy. All you have to do is draw them in with v_bar,
but first set the write mode to XOR ( vswr_mode(handle,3) ) so that
you wind up with a black cursor over a white letter. When you're
ready to undraw the cursor, just set the write mode back to XOR (if
you changed it in the first place) and draw the same box over again.

Subject: ANSI C
I have Prospero-C and it is "...a complete implemention of the proposed
ANSI standard for C for use on the Atari-ST range of computers"
(quoted from the back of the box it came in)
It is a very complete package, comes with a debuger and a nice gem based
shell to work from. I used it to port some IBM stuff written for
Turbo-C V2.0 (Bibtex V0.99c) and the port was almost trivial!!
It has excellent documentation (almost 1000 pages in 4 separate spiral
notebooks) and is very robust, I haven't had a single crash from the
shell yet! The only real drawback with it is that it isn't exactly a speed
demon!! But it runs fine on my 1meg machine and hard drive
I recommend it to anyone with only 1meg and who wants a 100% ANSI-C
compliant compiler :-)
No, I don't work for them (see signature block :-))

Subject: Avant-Garde's PC_DDRVR.SYS
Lars-Erik Osterud recently pointed out that you can use
Avant-Garde's PC_DDRVR.SYS to read normal ST disks on a PC.
This works fine, and I just wanted to add a comment on how bright the
software is -- my NEC Ultralite installs a RAMdisk as drive C, and the
driver routine (which normally creates logical drives C and D) spots
this and creates logical drives D and E as ST equivalents to A and B.
There is a noticable change in performance, since if I run DIR B: on a
PC disk the display scrolls smoothly, but if I run DIR E: on an ST disk
(in the same drive) the display jerks by. But that is pretty minor I
suspect. I haven't yet tried editing an Atari WP file on a PC!
I'm a bit hesitant to try this trick on the monster I have at work,
a 386 with three floppy drives and five HD partitions -- will
PC_DDRVR.SYS duplicate all three drives, just the one 3-1/2" drive,
or what? Anyone have any ideas what the side effects might be?

A quick question.
Where does one find the patch program for the serial port bug?
I am at home trying to do some work over the modem and I keep getting
spurious characters and commands being sent out. In fact it has made reading
the net almost immpossible. Just a few minutes ago it even unsubscribed
me from this topic.
PLEASE HELP ME.

Subject: PC-Ditto and Supra drive
Has anybody gotten PC-Ditto to recognize a Supra HD-10 drive?
HD-10 is their removable 10Mb psuedo HD. It can also read 5 1/4"
IBM floppies.
I tried calling Supra, but they couldn't help, and I've been unable
to get through to the PC-Ditto people.
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Subject: SCSI drives, SCSI-ESDI convertors
Is there a good SCSI drive out there? i.e. relatively high capacity,
speed, and low cost? I keep hearing about the Seagate mech., but I've also
heard about speed problems, like it can't be run at high speed. Any info
would be appreciated.
On a related note, someone posted something about a SCSI-ESDI convertor
that was available for $200 or so, was anyone smart enough to keep the address?
I lost mine. 8-(

Subject: TOS 1.4 problem
I have seen reports of problems accessing harddrives after installing
TOS 1.4. I just wanted to say that this maybe a problem with the formatting
or boot utility being used. I just installed the new ROM's into my Rev. D
1040STF and had no problems with my 1985 Supra 20Meg HD. I am able to
access everything properly and my previous backups could be restored
properly. I use Supra Utilities V2.62 and Meg-A-Minute Elite by Small etal.
for my HD utilities. Someone with more know-how might want to check this
out. Just thought I'd put in my $0.02 worth.

P.S. Why didn't Atari include a Move option in the copy routine?

David, has Levee been fixed yet? I like it a whole lot (most complete
features set I've seen on an ST), but I can't use it if pressing a key
during scrolling is going to crash the program and lose everything. I
just can't count on my habits changing to avoid this, so I've been using
Emacsen (sigh) - they force me to think differently. Let us know ...
